Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Zuraida Ahmad, a graduate of University Science Malaysia (USM), Pulau Pinang started her career as a research assistant in Ceramics Technology Laboratory, SIRIM, Shah Alam in 1992 before being offered a scholarship to further her study under Skim Latihan Anggota Baru (SLAB) by SIRIM in the same year to UMIST, Manchester. She was appointed as a Research Officer after she came back and two years later, in 1995, she was promoted to executive researcher in the same organization.
