Expert Profile
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifah Raihan Syed Mohd Zain joined International Islamic University Malaysia in 1996 as a lecturer in the finance discipline. She obtained her PhD in finance from the University of Plymouth, UK in 2003. Prior to her academic career, she was an executive officer at Perwira Affin Bank, Malaysia. Her research interests are in the areas of corporate finance especially capital structure, company evaluation and personal finance. Her current research focuses on financial literacy and company's value creation. Among the awards received: Best paper Awards from Malaysian Finance Association and Highly Commendable Paper Award from Emerald. She has supervised many Ph.D and Master's students in the areas of capital structure, Islamic banking, SMEs financing and financial distress. Apart from her research and teaching activities, Dr. Sharifah Raihan has been heavily involved in development and curriculum review of the faculty programmes such as Bachelor of Science (Islamic Finance), Master of ScienceĀ (Finance), Ph.D in Business Administration and Doctor of Business Administration. She was the Head of Doctor of Business Administration programme, IIUM Graduate School of Management from 2008 to 2014. She has also served as company director of IIUM Lower Education SDN BHD which comprises both primary and secondary levels of local and international schools. Currently, she is the Head of the Department of Finance, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences.
