The Kulliyyah currently spearheads four flagship research projects namely:

F1 (Malay Heritage Food)This flagship intends to share and promote the goodness of Malay food heritage to the world. This platform enables everyone to experience the Malay culture through gastronomy by exploring the unique food heritage trails from different states in Malaysia and many more. Through this initiative we also capture literatures behind the heritage.Work-in-progress
  • Development of apps on Malay food featuring among others food location, food calories, fun articles and food ingredients
  • Food demonstration and cooking lessons
  • Promotion of Malay food by state/district with strategic partner(s)
F2 (Tirkah Rimba)This project aims to conduct a research that integrates several aspects which includes cultural, languages and preservation and conservation of Orang Asli tradition for future generations. In a way, it will lead to understanding on how culture diversity interrelates with languages, culture and tourism is critical to straightening social cohesion and building social capital.Proposed activities:
  • Data collection (language and cultural) at Kg Sentosa Lenga (Jakun Ethnic).
  • Documentation (related activities) – video documentary and glossary (Jakun language)
F3 (Sustainable Volunteering)This flagship intends to inculcate the idea of sustainable volunteerism amongst the community of Edu Hub.  Via sustainable volunteerism, IIUM Pagoh aims to create an “army” of people who would love to contribute to the society via various humanitarian activities.Work-in-progress

F4 (Trust School)This programmes aims to support local schools in delivering better, equitable education for the local children around Pagoh. It also aims to give exposure to school children about programmes offered at IIUM for their post-secondary school education. We also aims to support teachers and the school administrators in terms of theory-into-practice matters, as well as co-academic activities. Proposed activities:
  • Get Ready for SPM Workshop (various subjects)
  • IIUM/Edu Hub Pagoh Open Day – campus visit by school children
  • Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan for Teachers – bringing theories into practice Co-academic mentoring programme – IIUM students coaching school students in preparing them for district/state/national level co-academic competitions such as debate (Malay and English), scrabble competition, drama competitions etc.
F5 (Muara)This flagship project aims to develop a living river lab in managing sustainable river-based tourism in Muar. This flagship project has been started since August 2018, and it has been listed as one of the flagship project initiatives in the IIUM Roadmap 2019-2020.  This project has involved an inter-kulliyyah collaboration with 23 members from KLM, three (3) members from KOS, one (1) member from KAED, and one (1) member from KOED. Also, this project has involved an external collaboration with Tourism Muar, Tanjung Kunang Enterprise, BH Travel and the local community of Kampung Sabak Awor, Muar. This project has successfully integrated into nine (9) courses and utilised the undergraduate research through Final Year Project which involved Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Malay (DOM), and Department of English (DOE). This flagship project has published four (4) research publications and two (2) successful grants with a total of RM 14, 800. Also, there are two (2) innovation awards for student’s project in Penang Invention, Innovation and Design 2019.  The novelty of The Muara flagship project is through various aspects from the transformative teaching and learning which involves different disciplines, research and publication, the collaboration of inter-kulliyyah and external collaboration, and the community engagement programmes. This project shows its uniqueness in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, strategic collaboration through the shared platform and harmonising the Maqasid Syariah based on the activities and programmes that have been conducted.  This project is a continuous effort to ensure that it will benefit the local people and IIUM community in achieving the sustainability of its social, economy and environment. Proposes activities for IIUM Roadmap 2021-2022:
  • Involve with the tourism industry to tackle the issues in tourism planning and destination management, especially for Post-Covid 19 Recovery Plan
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer with the tourism industry players.
  • Engage with community, including the community mapping and discovering their issues related to social, economy and environment.
  • To focus more on engagement in women and youth empowerment, especially for language and tourism activities.
