KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23  -- The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)’s Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development has won eight of the 2020 RCE Awards.

IIUM in a statement today said that the awards, announced on the Global RCE Network portal on Tuesday (Dec 22), were received for innovative projects on education for sustainable development that serve as a link among the local community.

“These awards are divided into three categories, namely, Outstanding Flagship Project, Acknowledged Flagship Project and Honourable Mention. For the Outstanding Flagship Project category, two projects received the awards, namely, Change the World and Whole Community Transformation through Feed to Educate,” he said.

For the Acknowledged Flagship Project category, three projects named as winners – Mainstreaming SDGs-Society as Agent of Changes, Living in Fortuitous Era and Greater Gombak Animal Shelter Project.

Three winning projects under the Honourable Mention category were Jalinan Siswa Bersama Masyarakat Asli Club Mentoring Enviro-Camp, IIUM Mental Health and Psychosocial Care Team (IMPaCT) and Capacity Building for Islam, Peace and Civilisational Development: Engaging Extremism, Terrorism and Conflict through Education for Sustainability (2019-2020), it said.

In April, the IIUM was declared as the Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development. RCE is a network of cooperation between individuals, communities, experts and organisations committed to building a sustainable future through education.

IIUM Rector Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, also in the same statement, said that the success complemented IIUM’s slogan by applying concepts such as caliph, iqra, trustworthiness and rahmatan lil alamin, besides strengthening the spirit of teamwork in areas of expertise.
