UMRAN 2019: THEME AND SUBTHEMES

THEME: Ideas Into Action: Designing A Green Built Environment
The world is currently undermining social and environmental stress in supporting expanding earth populace. Overpopulation, rapid urbanization, scared resources, and environmental degradation are the current issues concerning global threats. Thus, this conference is aiming to integrate all human intervention in addressing the problems by confining in the most consistent and beneficial method.
1. PUBLIC SPACES & PLACEMAKING
Placemaking is the process of improving the quality of places in order to maximize shared value. Its aim to cultivate the identity of the place and provide an opportunity for community interaction in a sustainable environment. This sub-theme emphasized the understanding of design approach, management of spaces and the idea on the collaborative process of shaping the public realm. Thus, the knowledge will assist to strengthen the connection between people and places to create a harmonies community.
2. SUSTAINABLE WELL-BEING
Good health and well-being are fundamental in daily conduct. Designing the built environment should be outlined by fulfilling human needs to rebuild a sustainable environment for the human to live in. By providing exposure to the community on the importance of health-related behavior, issues such as the increasing level of stress and the declining mental well-being can be resolved. Similarly, people's quality of life through the design and management of the built environment will gradually improve. Besides, the management of the environment should be precisely stressed out in projecting a healthier lifestyle. The intention is to promote people to live better, healthier and more productive in a sustainable way.
3. ACCESSIBILITY & NETWORKING
The art and science of design that makes place approachable to be utilized to its maximum potential as well as connecting people to places with the best networking route. It is a universal goal of connecting people that can improve the quality of life through interaction between humans and places. Involving designing for the built environment to be aesthetic and usable to a great extent possible by everyone; regardless of their age, ability or their status of life. Besides, the intention is to develop a solution that presents the best approach to create a user-friendly place.
- ECOLOGICAL GOODS & SERVICES
Ecological balance occurs from good cooperation of components in the environment. The benefits arising from the ecological balance is vital for sustaining well being, future economic growth and also social development. As human recognition of the importance grows, people are more eager to exploit the resources even though it should be well managed and preserved. Development will never stop, but it can be controlled by human efforts to ensure the natural resources constancy for the upcoming generations.
5. GREEN TECHNOLOGY & ENERGY SAVING
This sub-theme highlight the new systems on science technologies, ideas, and the invention of resource efficiency as well as the high-performance products or design responding to the emerging challenges, particularly in the built environment. It is to encourage the inventions and development that meets the current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to sustain a healthy living environment. The technology is of various scales, ranging from single products, automobile, infrastructures, space designs, to services with particular emphasis on preservation of the world in promoting a sustainable future.
6. CULTURAL INHERITANCE
Cultural inheritance highlight the inter-related relationship between, people, heritage, and traditions. This sub-theme, explain the understanding of people's origins and introduce to their cultural identity. Moreover, the technologies skill and social practices of collective cultural inheritance functioning as a vital role in forming a modern life. The adaptation of culture as part of people life and very own identity, the concern on conserving cultural attributes are becoming more aggressive to preserve the uniqueness of civilization.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS:
Submission of abstract on 18th March 2019 must be in JAPCM format and in Word file.
FULL PAPER SUBMISSION
Submission of full paper on 1st April 2019 must be in JAPCM format and in Word file. (can be download through UMRAN 2019 website).
Paper can only be processed upon receiving the full payment (do send us the proof of payment) and online registration.
To submit the result of Turnitin and Grammarly together with the full paper submission.
Turnitin: Less than 10%
Grammarly: 90%
The word that is requires in the paper are within 5000 until 7000 words only.
* note: Any paper which related to built environment but not belong to available sub-themes are welcomed.

Submission of poster(hardcopy) on 16th April 2019 can be sent to Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design main office, located on the second floor of the kulliyyah. Submission can be sent to En. Haizal – the personal assistant of the Department of Landscape Architecture between 9am and 5pm. Note that the office will be closed during lunch hour which is from 1pm to 2pm.
