Gombak, 30 November 2021. Six public law schools attended a workshop on preparing written memorial for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition hosted by Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) under the auspices of the Council of Law Deans, Public Institutions of Higher Learning.

In welcoming the participants, Professor Farid Sufian Shuaib, the Dean of AIKOL, hopes that the workshop involving all public law schools will elevate the quality of written memorials in the competition and contribute to the enhancement of the entry of all public law schools to the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. He extends his thanks to the Council of Law Deans particularly to Dato’ Assoc. Prof. Dr. Johan Shamsuddin Sabaruddin as the Chairman of the Council for agreeing to collaborate in organising the workshop to ensure all public law schools could benefit from the programme.

The public law schools are encouraging more experiential learning programmes such as the moot court competition and clinical legal education to give opportunity for students to hone their skills and understanding in implementing the law and in considering the impact of the implementation of the law to the society in hypothetical and real cases.

Dato’ Assoc. Prof. Dr. Johan Shamsuddin Sabaruddin who is also the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University Malaya, in his speech welcomes such a workshop to enhance the quality of entries from Malaysian teams in the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. He hopes that students will gain benefit from the workshop and bring their experience in the mooting competition to their legal practice later. With suitable trainings and guidance, Malaysian teams should be able to repeat the winning of IIUM’s team at the final international round of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition at Washington DC in 2005.

Students and coaches from IIUM, UM, UiTM, UUM, UNISZA and USIM participates in the workshop with En Amir Isyam Abdul Rahim, a former mooter and an experienced judge for Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The IIUM Moot Master, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Kamal and students from the IIUM Mooting and Law Student Competitions Club organise the event.
