The Malay community is not only rich in terms of art, but also has a singing style that involves various activities in accordance with the conditions and the way the song is delivered. It is common knowledge that the Malay world is rich in diverse poetry scripts. Tuti Adriani (2015) in her article stated that there are five types of poetry, the poetry flags, romantic poetry, metaphor poetry, religious poetry and poetry history.
Poetry is actually an art communications tool that has been around since ages. Islam has produced great poets and among them are Al-Khansa binti Umair, Hassan bin Thabit and Abdullah bin Rawahah. The poetry then reached the Malay world and seeped into the Malay culture through the famous poet Hamzah Fansuri.
Today we are fortunate that there are still contemporary Malay poets who carry this genre to national and international arena, among them is Roslan Madun, who is also known as 'Raja Syair Nusantara'.
CiTRA IIUM as a Center for Arts and Cultural Sustainable Development feels compelled to highlight the issue of poetry and cultural in the form of workshops so that young people today, especially the students can identify the origin of this poem and its importance in the past in the spread of Islam, spreading culture and noble values that exist in the Malay community. Image as a Center for Arts and Cultural Sustainable Development (CiTRA) necessarily support aspects of culture and Islamic art, especially in the context of Islamic culture raised in IIUM.
The establishment of CiTRA IIUM is to introduce the beauty of local and international cultures combined with Islamic culture, making IIUM a university different with others.
